Join us for an evening of music from West Africa to support humanitarian aid efforts in Sierra Leone. The celebration will feature Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars with Kabisko Kaba and the fabulous WOFA Drum and Dance Company from the Pioneer Valley Performance Arts Charter School opening the concert. Tony Vacca’s World Rhythms will join the All Stars for an exclusive after party jam session. Proceeds from the event will support the Katanya Women’s Development Association (KaWDA), a non-governmental organization established in 1996 during the eleven-year civil war.
MORE ABOUT THE BAND:
Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars (also called Refugee All Stars) is a band from Sierra Leone which was formedby a group of refugees displaced to Guinea during the Sierra Leone Civil War. Since their return to Freetown in 2004, the band has toured extensively to raise awareness for humanitarian causes. Their story is documented in the 2005 documentary film Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars. Their debut album, Living Like a Refugee, was released in Europe on 25 September 2006 and in the US on 26 September 2006.
