Lee Mixashawn Rozie will be performing at the Pocumtuck Homelands Festival at Unity Park in Turners Falls on Saturday, August 6. Beginning from the point of Jazz artist, using Indigenous cultural principles, maritime arts and historical data both written and oral he has developed a system of “Hemispheric Principles” to inform and guide his art form, more directly referred to as “Wave Art” : sonic, aquatic percussive and harmonic. He uses these to demonstrate the multi-cultural nature of “American” music. . Drawing from a musical heritage that spans four centuries and both sides of the Atlantic, Mixashawn uses instrumental virtuosity, a soulful voice, and original stories to illuminate the indigenous and African roots of “American” music and culture. He will be on stage at 12:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. The festival, from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., is free.
